Sarge Desktop!I've been experimenting with Debian on various old machines obtained from my previous employer for several years now. Since about 2000 I think. A couple of years ago I replaced Windows 98 with Ubuntu on my main desktop machine. After several upgrades I (foolishly) went from 6.06 LTS to 6.10 which broke the machine. Thankfully, although the GUI didn't work I could still access the drives from my Windows XP machine using Samba (fantastic piece of software IMHO). I have copied my Evolution mail and address book onto the Windows machine and tried a Sarge install to replace 6.10. Why not go back to Ubuntu 6.06 you ask? Well, after the 6.10 upgrade I am going for stability not cutting edge! The Sarge install was a breeze. All I have to do now is figure out how to get my email and address book onto the Sarge machine. That's why I am here initially. Then after that I'm thinking I need a laptop with Debian on it..........

Re: Evolution and Sarge
I use KMail and not Evolution, so I'm not the best one to address this.
Typical configurations for such a program should be as easy as copying over the dot-evolution files/subdirectory(ies?) from you home directory. But you knew that...
The problem I'd guess you'll have is that Ubuntu is actually a modified snapshot of Debian Sid/Unstable. Sarge/Stable is older. Thus, you're talking about moving the Evolution config back to an older version. Maybe the two versions haven't changed and it'll be no problem; but don't be surprised if there is a problem.
If you do run into problems, my advice at this time would be to install Etch for any new, non-mission critical install. Though Etch is officially in beta, it's nearing release. Odds are that the Ubuntu and Etch versions of Evolution will be much closer than the older Sarge version.
