Debian Etch RC1 installation problem(tcpd package)

I was trying to install Debian Etch RC1(x86 version) usingnetinstaller.   It downloads all the packages successfullybut while installing one of those packages my computer hangs for   indefinite amount of time. It   displays the
following at that time:Installing tcpd(displayed at top of screen)a progress bar andinstalled openbsd-inetd(displayed bottom of the bar) Is there anything i can do to fix this problem? Can anyone
kindly help me to find out what is causing this problem? Thanks.

While in d-i you can always switch to the "loging console" with ALT+F4.
There it should be more verbose about what´s going on.

...and while we are at this, RC 2 is on the way (no releas date announced yet
though).

a little research i found the following website.http://www.debianhelp.org/node/3648So it seems that the package is asking for input that's why this hanging problem. I'm not an expert.
this is just a thought(please forgive my ignorance).is it possible to install debian EtchRC1 without using the dhcp assigned ip address? I mean is it possible to give the input that the package asked through the
console(by pressing alt+F4)?

no problem, you are welcome.

Yes it is, but not with netinstall image.
Since i use pppoe myself which wasn´t supported until recently (at least i
didn´t know how) i always installed "offline" with aborting the network discover.
just hit "abort" and then "move forward without configuring network"
(translated from german)

But as i already said RC2 is on the way with lot of bugfixes, also the
"netbase" package were update recently iirc, so better to wait a bit (2 or 3
weeks i guess).

Thilo Six for your help. I guess I've to wait. May Debian live forever.

just want to second this as a viable option. I had an install where
the netinstall could not get the network up, so carried on without
it. Once booted into the real (very minimal system) network came up no
problem and i proceeded from there. This only works, of course, if the
drivers are in the main kernel image package but may not necessarily
be in the kernel that netinstall boots for the install...

Debian Etch RC1 installation problem(tcpd package)

One thing i just want to know. I think i didn't makethat clear in my earlier post. Sorry about that. Thewebsite:http://www.debianhelp.org/node/3648
states that the openbsd-inetd package hangs only whena static ip is used using netcfg/disable_dhcp=true at installation(netinstaller) cd's boot time. If you install using that process(static ip) this package's
installation process waits for an input. For this reason this hanging problem. So when it says:Installing tcpd(displayed at top of screen)a progress bar andinstalled openbsd-inetd(displayed bottom of the bar)
if i press alt+F4 and go to console, will it bepossible to give the input there(whatever it is asking for)? Can someone kindly confirm that? I really want to install debian etch. I think it is afantastic distro. Thanks.

the solution in the linnk you provided is to use a dhcp
configuration. Is this not possible for you? I suppose you could
always try this, totally not tested. after networking is setup but
BEFORE installation of packages begins switch to a vt (ctrl-alt-f2),
press enter to start the terminal and move /etc/networks out of the
way (mv /etc/networks /etc/networks.org), switch back to the install
alt-f1 and proceed from there. What this might do to the networking, I
don't know. Another option, mentioned elsewhere, is to forgo the
network setup in the install and just install the base system. THen
after reboot setup networking however you like and proceed to install
packages you want.

you sound committed, so why not just try it and report back?
