Hi all, I kept trying to connect using my wireless card but so far
still couldn't get it work.

Here is my ifconfig -a output

I suppose i'm using ipw2200 as my dmesg|grep ipw2200 gives

ipw2200: Detected geography ZZM (11 802.11bg channels, 0 802.11a channels)

Please let me know if you need more info, the problem seems like I
couldn't get the ip address for eth2. Anyway, I look forward to your
help as I've been googling around for quite a while. Thanks a lot!

Are the wifi settings correct ?
Usually if the Access Point requires the WEP key, the security settings
is set to 'Restricted' and not 'Open'

If you got X running I suggest you install wifi-radar
It saves a lot a headaches (and hair) in configuring wifi networks.

Just apt-get install wifi-radar, and tried my network, with key being
my key, mode Managed, Channel auto, Security restricted, and ip
automatically done by dhcp. However, it just took forever to stop,
and I suspect it's the same situation as I use dhcpcd -d eth2 which
gives mac address without giving ip address. Any idea how to fix it?

dumb question but is there an active DHCP server assigning IPs in wifi
network ? An access point does not necessarily have to be a dhcp server
unless it configured to be one.

One more point, Essid is case sensitive.

Ace.

How could I check that?

Well before I used iwconfig to do it myself but now I use wifi-radar
so probably it should not be the problem.

Thanks!

If the AP happen to have Ethernet ports as well (some do), connect to
one of those and see if you get an IP.

Also it would help to get info about this wifi network from it's providers.

This is a slightly ambiguous description ;)

Maybe routing is not working ?
When attached to a testing (w)lan with an IP from a
dhcp server, post the output of these commands:

/sbin/ifconfig
/sbin/route
cat /etc/nsswitch.conf
cat /etc/resolv.conf

thanks a lot!

hey everybody. I have the dreaded broadcom card. I got it to show up using the latest kernel from backports.org
.
However  I cant get it to connect  to any wireless networks including
an unprotected 1 and a wep access pt for which I have the key.  Does
anybody has any experience with this?
iwconfig gives this:debian:~# iwconfiglo        no wireless extensions.eth0      no wireless extensions.Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 22of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 20.
