help newbieI am brand new to this universe and am completely awed by it all. I remember archie and gopher from years past but thought it all had disappeared. Ok I want to upgrade my installation of Knoppix 3.4 but every attemp ends in failure ( from the root: apt-get update or apt-get -s upgrade all show error and I only got a number of files when I first ran the get-update that seemed to go nowhere and I have not been able to get anything or install. What am I doing wrong? You guys know, just quit smiling and help, PLEASE. this os is fabulous and I want to share it with others but I need to know how to use it myself first. |
knoppix
Knoppix is not Debian - it is a 'based on' distribution. They change things and it's not 100% compatible. Besides, if you read the Knoppix website, it states very clearly that Knoppix is meant as a live CD distribution only - it is not for installation to the hard disk even though some people have written scripts to do that. If you want Debian, then install a plain Debian system. If you want something more, then look at Ubuntu or Kubuntu (and the themes called 'Kubuntu Satanic Edition' look pretty nice). But if you use anything other than the plain Debian, there is no guarantee you can update/upgrade software successfully from the Debian archives.
help newbie
switch to debian! Knoppix does live-Cd job great, but is not so good when running from the hard drive. Believe me, I had so many problems, particularly when in brewing my own kernel and changing stuff around.
