Clock Applet - Can't Set Time From NTP Server

This is a very small problem but it is bugging me to no end. The problem is when trying to set the time on the clock applet, from a server, a dialog box tells me that NTP isn't working. Installing Chrony, NTP, and ntpdate didn't help. I'm running Sarge and don't want to update to a newer version. Suggestions welcome!

Thanks,

NTP will still work

NTP is changing to the next protocol version but the previous version should still be fully supported.

Run 'ntpdate' yourself and see what it says. One common problem is that you don't have the 'rtc' driver loaded and setting the hardware clock fails. Of course if your user does not have sufficient privileges you cannot set the system time at all - we don't want 30+ users all screwing with the computer's clock - just look at all the problems caused by single monkeys on WinDos machines - multiply by 30 or more and you'll never have a usable system. Unprivileged users can only change their TZ variable.

NTP Problems

I'll try running ntpdate tonight and see what happens.
