Audio not workingI cannot seem to get the audio to work. If I run alsaconf, everything seems to be set up fine, but still no sound. I noticed this message in /var/log/messages: Apr 30 19:21:46 localhost kernel: kobject_add failed for audio with -EEXIST, don't try to register things with the same name in the same directory. When I run alsaconf, the following shows: hda-intel nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev 2) Does anyone have an idea of what that message means, and what I can do to clear it? Or, more importantly, what I can do to get the audio to work? |
Audio not working
Did you use 'alsamixer' to unmute the channels after configuration?
Audio not working
I unmuted everything, but still no sound. I couldn't see anything to indicate that alsamixer thought there was a problem.
are you in KDE?
Are you in KDE? Try going to the Control centre enable the sound if it is not. Try changing the setting from autodetect to alsa and see if it works. Also ensure that your group is part of the audio group!!
Also ensure that your audio volume setting in the mixer is high enough. On some laptops and PCs sound volume is so low you really need to be high in volume. (try aumix or kmix as well in addition to alsamixer)
Heard something very faint through external speakers
Ok, I have the sound turned up as high as I can in alsamixer, kmix, and aumix. I plugged in a pair of speakers into the output jack, and if I turn the sound on the speakers very high, I can just make out one of the test sounds I am trying to play. So, it's producing sound, but very, very quietly. Is there anything I can do to make it louder?
sound volume is low
You should put the speaker sound volume to maximum in your mixer. There should also be a setting for gain (i know it is in aumix). This will help increase the volume. Also in your application you need to increase sound. Debian etch has both mplayer and vlcplayer. You could try installing these. I have used them successfully for higher volume on some systems which were not coming around with other softwares with a combination of aumix and the volume control of these softwares. Ofcourse if the speaker itself is low beyond a limit putting amplifiers may be required externally. I strongly recommend trying these softwares once.
