Used to have sound, but now I don't-???I am relatively new to Linux, and have installed the latest stable distribution of Debian to my Compaq Presario laptop. The laptop used to be able to play sound-I listened to songs I had copied onto my iPod in disc mode with the Riverbox that came with GNOME. However, now I cannot get it to play sound in any program whatsoever. Can anyone help? I'm assuming this problem has a relatively simple solution, since it used to work and I don't think I've uninstalled anything or the like. I've also used to Volume Manager that is locked in the panel to check that nothing is muted or very quiet, at least not anything I could find. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks ^^. |
Used to have sound, but now
A couple of things to check.
First, can you think of anything that changed that could have affected the sound system? Were there any additional packages installed before sound stopped working?
Second, if you start up your audio player from the command line, does it print out any error messages?
Another thing that might help diagnose the problem is to post the output of the lsmod command.
