debian installation /

Hi,

I have some difficulties with my installation : For the moment I have a compaw presario 2100 with windows and mandriva, and I want to replace mandriva by debian. But, when I start the installation process from CD, I am asked to share the disk, and only the hda disk wich appear as freespace. It looks like if my disk partition (hda1, hda3, hda5,...) is not seen by partman???????

I am very new in linux (I have not made the mandriva installation), and I feel very lost...

Thanks a lot for your help

Which CD are you using to install?
Did you use 'LVM' when you set up the disk for Mandriva?
If you press [alt][F2] in the installer to get a second console and type: "fdisk -l /dev/hda" what do you get?

Thanks for your help

I have a debian-40r0-i386-netinst.iso cd from the debian website . Concerning my mandriva installation, I do not know what kind of partition was used... maybe I can find this information by a shell command ?

If I test your command, I have :

Disk /dev/hda:60.0 GB, 6001642880 bytes, 255 Heads, 63 sectors/track, 7296 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 X 512 = 8225280 Bytes

Device boot start end Blocks ID System
/dev/hda1 * 1 4019 32282586 7 HPFS NTFS
/dev/hda2 4020 7296 2632250+ 5 Extended
/dev/hda3 4121 4183 506047+ 82 Unix swap/ solaris
/dev/hda5 4020 4120 811251 b W95 Fat 32
/dev/hda6 4184 4825 51568337 83 linux
/dev/hda7 4826 7296 19848276 83 linux

Do you think I should try an other cd ????

Thanks for your help...

The installer has no problems reading your disk. Look carefully at the disk options; maybe there is something hiding? After you select 'hda' doesn't it show you another screen showing the partitions?
