Where do you set the default display manager to be xdm?

For some reason it is currently set to kdm, which is /usr/bin/kdm.
What is the equivalent for xdm

xdm knows it is not the default and refuses to start.

TIA

Where do you set the default

dpkg-reconfigure xdm

From there you can select any display manager you've installed. In fact, since you have kdm installed you can achieve the same effect by:

dpkg-reconfigure kdm

Where do you set the default

what do I need to get dpkg-reconfigure to run?

tried this, but do not have it.

TIA
