Can not connect to wireless network in thinkpad X60

Hi:

I installed the lastest debian testing on my Thinkpad X60.
I use Gnome and use networkmanager to handle the networks.
However, i found that i can not connect to any wireless APs, even though
the newworkmanager shows that the signal is very strong!
I can connect to my AP in windows.
The kernel version is 2.6.21-2.

And plus, my college has a thinkpad X60 too. But his debian testing is not upgraded to the lastest.
The kernel in his machine is 2.6.18-4.
His machine works and can connect to the network immediately.
Intestingly, when he upgrade to the latest testing, he can not connect to wireless either.

Can anybody tell me how to solve the problem?

Thanks

Deng

Can not connect to wireless

What wireless driver does the thinkpad 60 use? Recently (I don't know if it was 2.6.21 or 2.6.22) the kernel IEEE80211 stack had been replaced again but this time with the stack from Devicescape. Not all drivers are compatible with this stack; make sure the 802.11 stack that you load is the one you need and remove the other.

Did you look in the log files for any clues about what's failing?

Can not connect to wireless

Hi:
Thank you for your reply.

The wireless driver is ipw3945.
I use all the official debs.
That is the kernel, the ipw3945 module, ipw3945d, and firmware-ipw3945.

Actually, when i upgraded from 2.6.18-4 to 2.6.18-5,
i found the same problem (but there is no ipw3945module in the repository, i compiled from ipw3945-source).
So, i have to keep the old 2.6.18-4 module to use wireless.

I am sorry. I am a newbie. could you tell me which log file to look at?

Thanks

look in /var/log - which file information might be in is anyone's guess. You have kern, debug, daemon, dmesg, messages, syslog.
