Mac PowerBook G3 laptop install problemsThis place seems to be a location for Mac saavy people, so I will present my problem: I used debian-40r0-powerpc-netinst.iso copied to my 2gb flash disk, set the image with the etch gnome cd burner, and put the CD in my cheap Mac laptop. It still gives me the floppy with a question mark. Is there something else I should use for this G3? Is G3 too old? Thanks for any help, before I give $79 to MacOutlet in Denver for generic Mac 9.0. |

The G3 is fine - and doesn't it run OSX? If your system can run OSX that's much better than OS9.
Booting a Mac to a different system takes some magic - have a look at the Install Instructions that are on the CD. You can also use google to find comments on how to boot a Mac to a Linux installer.
PowerBook G3 trouble
Thanksk, it responds to a G4 Mac 9 install CD, but has trouble installing anything. I'll try our OSX again too.
PowerBook G3 trouble
According to this website:
http://www.stocksy.co.uk/articles/Linux/debian_linux_for_ppc_macs/
the magic sequence is to pop in the install CD and press 'c' as the system boots up - it should boot from the CD and you can go from there. I'm not familiar with the boot managers for PPC, so have a good look at the article on how to set up the boot manager.
