amarok/xine refuse to play flac files

i am using amarok 1.4.6 with libxine 1.1.7. i googled around a bit and found some information from 2006 about xine not liking flac files with id3 tags. i found some patches but the patches were for much older versions of amarok and libxine.

using $file myfile.flac verified that myfile.flac did indeed have id3 tags. first i used metaflac to output the tags to a file, then i decoded and then encoded the file to strip the tags, then i used metaflac to put the tags back on. after doing this $file myfile.flac identified the file as a flac file (presumably with vorbis tags), but amarok and xine still refuse to play nicely with it.

i am really at my wits end on this and would appreciate any help or suggestions.

try installing xmms-flac plugin

I think amarok supports xmms plugins. Try installing xmms-flac package. I think it may start working.
