Error upgrading libc6 and installing ndiswrapper

Hello there. I recently installed Debian and I'm trying to install ndiswrapper so I can get my wireless drivers on my laptop working. However, when trying to install ndiswrapper, I get the following error:

debian:/home/avalith/Desktop# dpkg --install ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.47-2_i386.d eb
Selecting previously deselected package ndiswrapper-utils-1.9.
(Reading database ... 71663 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 (from ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.47-2_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of ndiswrapper-utils-1.9:
ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 depends on libc6 (>= 2.5-5); however:
Version of libc6 on system is 2.3.6.ds1-13etch2.
dpkg: error processing ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 (--install):

Errors were encountered while processing:

So when I go to try to upgrade libc6 to version 2.6.1, I get this error:

debian:/home/avalith/Desktop# dpkg --install libc6_2.6.1-1_i386.deb
dpkg: regarding libc6_2.6.1-1_i386.deb containing libc6:

tzdata (version 2007b-1) is installed.
dpkg: error processing libc6_2.6.1-1_i386.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing libc6
Errors were encountered while processing:
libc6_2.6.1-1_i386.deb

Is there a way to upgrade libc6 to the version I need for ndiswrapper to work without taking out the GNOME desktop environment (which, according to Synaptic, I have to do if I remove tzdata)?

Are you mixing releases? Is there any particular need for ndiswrapper/utilities more recent than 'etch' ? Well, I'm assuming you installed 'etch'.
