What is the Best Program To...

Wanting a second party Debian package downloader.
Debian`s package managers are very heavy weight.

Portable to most Linuxes ( Bash or C compiled ).
GUI would be nice ( GTK ), but it`s not necessary.

Surely someone has written a Debian package downloader
for source and binary files that handles dependencies.

Purpose:
To download and make different Linux distro`s packages.
Some packages will be made of binary files.
Some compiled with "--prefix" for abnormal path install.

### Download package and dependencies needed. NO install.

This is somewhat similar to the "Anonymous and Encrypted Internet Access" post. I assume that Google and my ISP already know everything there is to know about me that can be gleaned from my browsing habits. Still, I sometimes contemplate trying to extract myself from the corporate feeding frenzy over every bit of marketable information my life generates.

So, I was wondering if people had suggestions concerning how to go about working online in ways that limit the extent to which I'm helping the corporate behemoths. Duckduckgo over an https connection for searching? Lavabit or Fastmail for email? Using a DNS service other than my ISP's or Google's?

This isn't really a "what's the best program to" question, but more of a "what's the best network design approach" type of question.

Be warned, this will be fairly long.

Problem: In an age where gov't and corporate monitoring of our activities is routine, and where it is increasingly common for lawyers and courts to grab our online data to be used in such mundane/routine things as divorce cases, I shudder when thinking of the future. Mentally fast forwarding 10 years or so paints a scary picture.

Call me a slippery slope nut, but I see our online activities becoming more and more accessible in future years. Though I'm not doing anything illegal, I don't want some future bitter wife or some gov't or private investigator knowing every site I visit while online.

Been using photoshop for some time, but was wondering if there are some other similar worthwile programmes?
